Mrs. Stacey Bray ~ Science

Stacey Bray holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Education along with a Master’s degree in Education. She began her teaching career in Newark in 1996 before coming to Mendham Township in1998. At MTMS, she taught fifth grade science and currently is teaching 8th grade. In her classroom an inquiry- based approach is used to allow students to perform many hands-on activities in which they will problem-solve and collaborate while discovering new ideas about the content being taught. Students of today must be prepared to enter a rapidly changing world in which complex problems need to be solved and Stacey thinks that it is most important that students have the necessary skills to learn for themselves. She feels this is attainable by encouraging all her students not to give up and by holding them to high but attainable standards. In addition to teaching science at MTMS, she also is the 8th grade co-advisor.

Ms. Sara Cyr ~ Language Arts

A graduate of Boston College, Sara Cyr came to MTMS in January of 2010 with 9 years experience teaching English at the high school level. During her tenure at Montville High School, she received a Best Practice Award from the governor for her Interdisciplinary Mock Trial, which she has incorporated into the 8th grade curriculum here at MTMS. Ms. Cyr has earned a Master's Degree in Leadership Theory and has been granted a principal's license and met requirements toward a superintendent's license as well. In addition to her Master's Degree, Ms. Cyr has completed 30 graduate credits in English Literature with a concentration in American novels and female authors. Ms. Cyr spent 9 years coaching Track & Field at the high school varsity level and 8 seasons coaching basketball for the Long Valley Recreational League.

Mrs. Diane Emr ~ Math

Diane Emr began teaching at MTMS in 1995. She graduated college with a B.A. Degree in Mathematics and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education. Through her years at MTMS, she has taught sixth grade through eighth grade mathematics, including Algebra 1 and Geometry, coached the cross country team, organized several math enrichment clubs and a LEGO robotics club, and was a yearbook advisor. She currently teaches 8th Grade Math and Algebra 1 and is the coordinator of the 8th grade problem-solving program.

Mr. Perry Hooker ~ US History

Perry Hooker joined MTMS in December 2016 as an 8th Grade Social Studies teacher. He received his B.A. in Politics from Rutgers University and received his teaching certification at the college of Saint Elizabeth. Prior to teaching, he worked at the Somerset Hills YMCA as a camp director and sports instructor. He also worked as a paraprofessional for the Somerset Hills School District for three years. He is the Girls Soccer Coach and Co-Advisor to the Student Council. When he is not teaching, Perry loves to play and watch sports such as soccer, football, and basketball.

Mrs. Amanda Porter ~ World Langauge

Mrs. Amanda Porter is a 2004 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University; earning a BS in K-12 Spanish Education and a minor in International Studies. Mrs. Porter studied abroad in high school and college in Seville, Spain, where she experienced total immersion in the Spanish language and culture. Mrs. Porter was excited to join the MTMS teaching staff in 2016, bringing many years of experience and a passion for teaching world languages to middle level learners. Mrs. Porter believes in the importance of making connections with students that extend beyond the school walls. She is currently an active member of FLENJ, the advisor of a Jump, Stunt, and Tumble Cheerleading Club at MTMS and the Head Coach of the nationally ranked Varsity Competitive Cheerleading Team at Mendham High School.

Ms. Christine Yawger ~ Language Arts

Grade 8 Special Events

Mock Trial


Students examine a real life case in tandem with their study of To Kill a Mockingbird. Students take on the roles of lawyers, witnesses, and judges to conduct a trial that explores the art of persuasion and utilizes their writing and speaking skills.


New York City

Students visit various places and exhibits to connect with their social studies unit on immigration. This 1-day trip includes a tour of the United Nations, World Trade Center Memorial, and a ferry ride around Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

This 8th grade fundraiser showcases student creativity and cooperation to offset the cost of the 8th grade trip. All grade levels are invited to participate.

Shakespeare Festival

3-Day Washington D.C./Hershey Park Trip

Students tour our nation’s capital visiting various monuments and museums as the culmination of their Mendham Township academic experience. This 3-day trip includes a tour of Arlington National Cemetery, The Vietnam Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, the Washington Monument, and more. Students conclude the trip with a day at Hershey Park.
