Welcome to Mendham Township Elementary School, where our motto, "Every Student, Every Day," is more than a phrase, it’s a living promise. I’m Dr. Julianne Kotcho, and it is my great honor to serve as the Principal of MTES. With 34 a school culture that prioritizes student growth, academic excellence, and joy in learning.

My educational background includes a Master’s degree in Supervision and Leadership from The College of New Jersey and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Policy and Management from Seton Hall University. These foundations, paired with a career of working alongside outstanding educators and families, inform my progressive and student-centered leadership style.

At MTES, we are proud to be a dynamic, innovative, and forward-thinking school community. Our staff consists of highly skilled teachers, dedicated support staff, and a strong, consistent leadership team. Every decision we make is driven by data, student growth, and the whole child’s development, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical.

Our commitment to "Every Student, Every Day" is evident in the way we assess student progress throughout the school year. Frequent progress monitoring allows us to adjust instruction and offer tailored support or enrichment to ensure every learner is growing and thriving. Our aim is to help all students succeed not only in school but in life.

Innovative Learning Spaces

We are excited to offer our students upgraded, state-of-the-art learning spaces that reflect our commitment to 21st-century education:

• STEM Lab: A hub for hands-on engineering and design thinking. Students engage in collaborative projects that build problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
• Tech/MakerSpace: An open-concept space where students explore robotics, basic coding, and the dynamic use of AI tools to support creation, analysis, and productivity.
• Music Suite, Art Studio, and Library/Media Center: These vibrant spaces allow students to express themselves creatively, explore literature, and develop a lifelong love of the arts and reading.

Literacy Through a Knowledge-Based Approach

At MTES, we use a knowledge-based approach to literacy instruction. Our students build vocabulary, background knowledge, and comprehension skills through content-rich texts and structured writing opportunities. By anchoring instruction in real-world content across disciplines, we strengthen reading fluency, word recognition, and the capacity to think critically about complex texts.

Math with Meaning

Our mathematics program emphasizes number sense, fact fluency, and problem-solving strategies. Students learn to understand the "why" behind the math, enabling them to confidently tackle multi-step problems and apply their learning in meaningful contexts. Our curriculum balances foundational skill-building with real-world application.
